Notes

Just fleeting thoughts that pop into my mind. Or perhaps things I’ve been thinking about that don’t really warrant a full-on post.

  • I just stumbled upon a classic episode of the TV series Only Fools And Horses. It’s the one where Del Boy, Rodney and Cassandra win a holiday to Spain after Del sends one of Rodney’s old school paintings into a cereal competition. This series still stands up and I’m still laughing out loud watching it.…

  • A Beggar Woman 1861 Painting by Hugues Merle

Taken by myself at the musée d’Orsay in Paris During our trip to Paris a few years ago, my girlfriend and I visited a fair number of art galleries. Although I saw a lot of paintings that stood out to me, this one — A Beggar Woman by Hugues Merle — was one that grabbed…

  • First steps into No Man’s Sky

I am absolutely loving No Man’s Sky. The planets I’ve visited are absolutely stunning! My first base is on a snowy planet I discovered. I called the planet “Ice Bonga”. The cold storms get pretty nippy on there. After warp driving to a neighbouring star system, I found another new planet. This is probably my…

  • Decided to go for a stroll, which ended up being a two-hour walk around a local nature reserve. Beautiful scenery but almost got bested by flooding water numerous times.

  • Ellen Ripley (circa 1979)

In celebration of my restarting Alien: Isolation later, I thought I’d share a commemorative picture of Sigourney Weaver from the film Alien.

  • Looking forward to getting back into Alien: Isolation on the PS4 tonight. I tried playing it about a year ago but I got about an hour or so into it and stopped playing. Dunno why I never went back to it. However, I have been advised by a couple of mates through PSN that I…

  • The Silent Scream (Hammer House of Horror episode 7)

The Silent Scream may be one of my favourite episodes from the Hammer House of Horror series. It doesn’t contain any deaths – not of people anyway – and doesn’t really have much in the way of gore. But where this episode excelled for me was on the psychological level.

  • Metal Gear Solid V : The Phantom Pain

A superb open-world espionage game from Hideo Kojima. The Boss is back.

  • Running round raccoon police station with a red jewel and a 9 volt battery. Wtf?

  • Anyone else getting sick and tired of elitist developers hating on WordPress? Just because it doesn’t tick a bunch of boxes in some web dev book. They completely miss the point and its power.

  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider

The closing chapter on the recent three Tomb Raider games. Not my favourite, but still a great game.

  • Persona 5

One of the best games I’ve ever played. An awesome, fist-pumping RPG with a superb soundtrack.
