Them: Hey Dave, you should use “ai”.
Me:
WordPress, like pretty much everyone, is gulping up the ai hype and introducing and showing off a bunch of ai capabilities around a wordpress website (as seen in State of the Word 2025)
My question for anyone out there is, is this even wanted by anyone?
Having a third party ai take action on a website is not exciting to me. It’s just another step in taking humans out of creative endeavours.
“ai” is the worst thing to happen to society.
Removing more and more people from working, whilst making cancerous billionaires richer, is only ever going to result in greater and greater inequality.
Everything else is parlour tricks.
There is pretty much nothing good to come from any of this crap being peddled as “The greatest thing to enhance human capability”.
The whole “human in a loop” thing – this is essentially taking people out of creative and critical thinking and reducing them to glorified conveyerbelt workers on a production line of “content”.
Whilst “ai” is the worst invention to flood the world in recent times, the word “content” is the word I’d love to confine to room 101.
People talking about “content” just pull every creative expression down to its lowest form that all comes down to “engagement” which itself basically equates to “analytics clicks / views / whatever”.
The World Wide Web was a gift with the greatest of potential.
It has been reduced to a mincing machine that steals from the creatively-gifted amongst us, in order to give non-creative people the false sense that they are.
All so they can create, and I use that term very lightly, slops of images and videos that will be forgotten tomorrow.
All at the cost of ours and the planet’s future.
I am so fucking bored of hearing about, and seeing the “fruits” of, AI.
Getting sick of people using AI to generate posts for them then calling themselves “creators”.
Hey look I’ve just ordered a table from IKEA — therefore I am now a furniture creator.
Lol, it’s a joke.
I’ve been ignoring AI out of a sheer tiredness of hearing it from every corner of the web / tv / etc.
But damn it if it hasn’t been helpful in me making updates and new features to my website.
Due to not having much free time at the moment, or for the foreseeable future, it’s nigh on impossible to really sit and focus on learning something for extended periods of time.
But with using an AI assistant for the specific issues each step of the way, it’s helped both with getting it done, and my understanding it easier – especially when a lot of my personal coding is done whilst I’m cooking dinner of an evening.
My specific build has been a new plugin for my WordPress website; one that automatically imports my scrobbles from last fm – an itch I’ve been wanting to scratch for a long time.
