Jar of Flies by Alice In Chains

I’d heard that this was one of Alice in Chains’ best releases. However, for some reason it took a while for me to get into it.

I’m glad I persisted, as this has become a favourite album / e.p. of mine I’ve heard in a long time.

It just gets better with each listen for me.

  • I’m considering doing a regular post on a Friday called something like the “Friday Five”.

Where I will endeavour to have listened to five new albums that week and write up my thoughts on them.

Inspired by The Sunday Six by Christian’s Music Musings.

  • Those early Elton John albums really are incredible. May need to make this week an Elton John Discography week.

Could “Stereotomy” by “The Alan Parsons Project” be one of the greatest albums ever recorded?

    I think so.

The title track alone is incredible. And the closing refrain of the album being a condensed version of the same song – bringing the album back full circle is just top tier.

  • Loved that Chvrches turned up in Death Stranding 2. Nice touch.

  • Trying to listen to Supertramp albums on YouTube Music — some of my favourite ever albums — and half the songs are unavailable.

Most likely this is down to some stupid fucking copyright issue that only occurs to certain songs or somet.

You can see from the screenshots below that half the songs — arguably the best ones — are greyed out unavailable.

This is why music streaming — aka renting — cannot be relied upon.

Buy your favourite albums and keep the physical copies for yourself.

  • YouTube Music has got me pegged.

  • Been really digging this album today.

Murder Ballads by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.

Never really heard their / his stuff other than the title song from Peaky Blinders.

This album is incredible and dark. Going to be investigating more of his stuff.

  • It is scientifically impossible to play this song too loud.

I liked the darkness in the early 00s when their initial hits came out but then just forgot about them.

    I have since rediscovered them.

This song, Bald, and the album it featured on: One way ticket… are absolute fucking bangers.

    10/10.

  • I was in the top 0.75% of listeners of My Chemical Romance in December 2024.

    Levels.

  • I may be ready to take a break from metal music. Instead I’m going to try and soak up as music classical music as I can.

Starting tonight with Moonlight Sonata. Always reminds me of the original Resident Evil game. It’s the tune that Rebecca or Jill have to play on the piano to open a secret doorway.

They were the good old days. Keys in the shapes of card suits and attacks by terrifying hunters. πŸ’šπŸ§Ÿβ€β™€οΈ

  • Even though the WordPress ecosystem is about as stable as the dimensions in Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart right now, I do still self host my website on it.

I’ve been working on a lastfm scrobbles importer with time permitting over the past month.

Its currently in Alpha testing and is importing both the older scrobbles from the past ten years up to currently listening to.

It’ll be nice to be able to have the option to scrobble directly to my site in the future. Until now this will do me.

I will release it in Beta as soon as the admin area pages are tidied up.
