Oh my god I am being surrounded by videos / people etc going on about Omarchy being the next big thing and how building your own arch install is a “waste of time”… hmm.

Also what’s with d_hh essentially crapping on all the people who built gnu/linux in really back-handed compliments.

“…nerdy, pocket-protector, completely devoid of style…who wrote good 40,000,000 lines of code… we’re layering on nice asthetics”

It’s literally a bunch of techbros, yet again, bowing to this guy who basically vibe-coded some themes and configured some programs. All to try and “package up” linux into some set of prducts and a… conference? lmao

@david You mean this guy? https://world.hey.com/dhh/as-i-remember-london-e7d38e64

Yeah, I wouldn’t use want to use anything he’s been anywhere near. He’s a genuinely horrible person.

Ye I’m aware of his “output” and I agree with you 100%.

@david I find it alarming he hasn’t been completely excommunicated from the FOSS world.

There are plenty of other distros, so why are people still talking about Omarchy.

@gavin57 @david Getting rid of him completely might be difficult. After all, he is still the lead developer behind Ruby on Rails which powers a lot of FOSS web services including Mastodon. We would either need to hard fork Rails or rebuild a lot of stuff in a different framework or even language.

But yeah, we probably shouldn't jump on even more of his projects.

@david Even not considering what I think of DHH as a person, I'm immediately suspicious of anything that has "by [person]" directly in the first line of its description.

A "by the developers of [other project]" is fine but does the FOSS community really need to deify individual people? Shouldn't this be about working together?
