For fuck’s sake.

Digital Ocean have joined the other numbskulls and have given a bunch of money to the Fascist-ware set of dotfiles that it omarchy.

Millions for a set of configs on top of Arch Linux.

Now I need to find an alternative.

For those not sure why people are jumping ship from people who are supporting dhh’s config files, here’s one of them: “as i remember london by dhh

So I turn to AskFedi first for any recommendations for alternatives.

I hope you get other recommendations, but from a statistical sample of one:

I used Ramnode for a few years without issue, but I only had one cheap VM. They were bought by Inmotion.

To my knowledge, neither is especially evil. But I haven't done extensive research.

I'll be moving my lone DigitalOcean VM to Ramnode within a week or two.

The link is there for people who think “why do people hate this guy etc”. Those who are not aware. It is obviously not an endorsement.

@jantzen @david An alternative to their host Digital Ocean, not to their distro.

@david I remember 1984.hosting being really good, though they probably don't offer nearly the same.

@david I use Linode only because I started when they were really Linode. Now they're Akamai. I haven't had problems, even with running my own SMTP server, but I'm wary nonetheless.
